Unlike other contractors, we don't need you to provide a scope of work and drawings for the work to be completed. Practical problem solving experience allows us to take some of your burden at work and put it on our shoulders.

The result is that you get more done in less time.

Mundt Construction Services (known as Mundt Construction to our customers) was founded by Bret Mundt, former University of Memphis Tiger Basketball player, in 1996.

In 1989 Bret started working in heavy industrial construction business for Plant Maintenance Service Corporation and quickly became an expert at process piping and equipment installation. He gained extensive experience at manufacturing facilities around the Mid-South like Cargill, Bunge, Sherwin Williams, JM Smuckers Company, Owens Corning, Planters Oil Mill - Pine Bluff, ADM, Tetra Industries, Willamette, Norbord, Georgia Pacific, Smurfit Stone, Alpha Owens Corning (Now AOC in Collierville) and many more.

After 4 1/2 years with PMSC, Bret went to work for GMW, Inc, an ASME code fabricator and Heavy Industrial Contractor in Memphis. Bret was hired primarily to manage the installation of all process equipment, process piping, boilers and associated equipment at the now defunct Nissin Foods noodle manufacturing plant in Memphis. Working in conjunction with Linkous Construction, the project was completed in time and under budget despite the fact that a bust in the project estimate started the project out more than $100k in the red. At the end of the project, the company had a net profit of more than $100k.

With a 1 year stint at GMW, Bret decided to find other opportunities working as a a Corporate Project Engineer at AOC in Collierville, TN. At AOC, Bret was responsible for managing projects $200k and up at 7 manufacturing locations across the United States as well as being assigned the Facilities Manager for the Corporate Headquarters and R&D Support engineer. While at AOC, he learned how to justify capital expenditure requests, assemble bid packages, guide projects from concept through design to construction and implementation. He learned how engineering firms can get into your pockets if they run unchecked with no specific scope and was successful in reducing engineering costs below 5% of constructed costs when the standard for engineering costs company wide was accepted as 10-15% of constructed costs.

Looking for an opportunity to increase his personal earnings and get actual business experience Bret sought out and accepted a position as General Manager of the Special Projects Division at Rose Construction in Covington. At Rose, Bret has full P&L responsibility as well as responsibility for strategic planning and marketing strategy as well as managing office and field personnel. Under Bret's direction, Special Projects grew from $400,000 per year with marginal profits to $2.7M in gross sales with almost $600k in profit at the end of his first year. The number of field personnel exploded from 4 to 50 in just 12 months and office personnel expanded from 1 project manager to 3 project managers performing more than 300 special projects per year.

Having learned how to operate and market a business, Bret started operating Mundt Construction full time in November of 2000.
